Save A Child's Heart Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
SACH is seeking $3.3 million dollars in funding for the construction of a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel. The new PICU, containing expanded and updated facilities and equipment, will enable SACH to provide improved treatment to more children annually. An anonymous donor has pledged to fund $2M; SACH is seeking donors for the remaining $1.3M.
The existing Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the WMC serves 400 children each year. The main obstacle preventing the treatment of additional patients is the limited space in the current PICU. Built and equipped in 1994, the unit does not serve the growing needs SACH. The current facility includes six beds, one isolation unit and four intermediate beds, and it was designed for providing open heart surgery for 150 children annually. The existing PICU is overloaded with children who occasionally need to be transferred to the adult ICU to enable the intake of our increased number of patients. Therefore, SACH proposes to construct a new PICU. This project will include the expansion and improvement of facilities and equipment at the Wolfson Medical Center, which will enable the treatment of additional children.
Save A Child's Heart Children's Home
One of the main obstacles preventing the treatment of the growing number of children from developing countries suffering from rheumatic and congenital heart disease is the limited space in the current SACH children's home. This facility (350 sqm) was designed to accommodate 200 guests, including children, medical personnel, family members and volunteers. SACH's natural growth has meant that this facility is no longer sufficient to meet the organization's growing needs. Therefore construction of a new children's home is required, which will provide SACH with the required space for the growing number of children participating in the program and be perfectly tailored for the program's needs.
The New Home will provide the space required for SACH's expanded project, as it is planned to be 600 sqm and will be able to accommodate up to 250 children annually. The New Home will be located on a plot of land donated by the Municipality of Holon, and thus the new facility will also be situated in closer proximity to the WMC, ensuring easier transit back and forth from the WMC. Owning rather than leasing the property will also allow SACH to modify the dwelling according to the future needs of the organization.
The New Home will enable us to house 40 children with their escorts, 6 international volunteers, and to accommodate five training physicians and the SACH offices. The New Home will include a separate indoor playroom for the children and an outdoor playground as well as a room for the movement and dance therapist working with the children.
The total cost of the project to construct the New Home is estimated at $1,000,000. SACH has already been granted $405,000 from KidsRights, a Dutch organization which has provided $270,000 towards the construction costs of the house, and $135,000 earmarked towards meeting the basic needs of children in the house. SACH is now seeking the remaining funds towards construction costs of the New Home.
